HAFRAM MEMBERS SUPPOURT MORGAN GSA'S DISTINGUISHED SPEAKER SERIES: "THE FREEDOM TRADITION OF BLACK LEADERSHIP"

Posted Monday, October 20, 2014

This past Monday, HAFRAM G.C. Members, Charles Chavis, Edwin Jackson, and Benita Dix supported Morgan State Universities Graduate Student Associations Distinguished Speaker Series. This years speaker was world renowned scholar, cnn contributor and Morehouse College Distingished Professor of African American History. The focus of his centered around the nature of leadership within African American history, specifically as it relates to the Black Freedom Tradition. Quoting the word of the Honorable Iliahsah Muhammad, stating that "you must speak the truth even when it is bitter." As a result of speaking the truth against such injustices, Hill argues that you will be I solated and marginalized, stating , only 12% of the Black Community participated in the civil rights movement, while the other 88% were scared to come out of the house....what do you expect to be the case now, when you host events on campus and you can only get students to show up if you searve food." Not to sugest that historicaly students have not came together as it relates to speaking out against in justice, rather he states that, when everything went down in fergesoun missori, we showed up [social media and physically], but the real work begins the day after.'' This, Hill argues is the over arching problematic that we witness today as we witness the witness the injustices that take placed towards the "other' within our socitey, we show and speak out when these events take place but we fail to follow through, in terms daily advocated for the end of such banal injustices.
