BENITA DIX

My name is Benita Dix, and I have been and still am enthralled by the contributions of the Black woman and her impact on the world. I hail from the great state of Texas; and, although not born there, Lubbock, Texas is home. I am a proud Red Raider Alum of Texas Tech University where I received a Bachelor’s of Science in Animal Science, and a Master’s of Science in Interdisciplinary Studies (with concentration in Literature, African-American History, and Women’s Studies). At Texas Tech University I was involved in the following groups where I also held leadership roles: Visions of Light Gospel Choir, Goin’ Band from Raiderland, and Black Graduate Student Association. Also, I participated and volunteered heavily with the Women’s Studies Department at TTU. Lastly, I am a proud member of the Mu Kings chapter of Alpha Lambda Omega Christian Sorority, Inc. My research interests include activism and agency among the Black working class and poor; feminism from the second wave to now; Black women and the welfare movement; Black women and the definition and politics surrounding being married, mothers, and their view on feminism. I look forward to this new journey in my academic career at Morgan State University as a MSU Bear; and will make it my priority to fulfill the duties required as the newly elected Treasurer of HAFRAM, G.C.
